SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

How to Format Your Submission:

Submissions should be typed in 12pt Times New Roman font and double-spaced. Prose and drama submissions should be no more than 10 pages. All contributors are limited to 3 submissions. Do not include your name on the work.

Submit: Text

How to Send Your Submission and What to Include in Your Email:

Submit with attachments to an email to wilderthingsmagazine@gmail.com. Please use a separate email for each submission—this includes poems. Submissions should be Word documents (.doc or .docx) only and must be attached as files (do not share via Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, or other link or cloud-type systems).

Please include your work’s name and the genre you are submitting to in the subject line of the email. Please share your name, university, and a third-person bio in the body of the email.

Don’t forget to include the genre of your piece. If you do not include a genre or indicate that your piece is speculative, your work may not be considered for publication. If you have any questions about speculative literature, please refer to this page for what we constitute as an example of genre work.

See the bottom of this page for an example email submission, or contact us with any questions.

We are not accepting first chapters of longer works or excerpts from longer works at this time. Wilder Things does not accept work generated by AI.

Trigger and Content Warnings:

Trigger/content warnings are appreciated but not mandatory. If you’re unsure whether or not to include a warning, we advise that you add it to your email to be safe. Staff will be in contact with authors of accepted pieces to review any potential trigger/content warning concerns.

We strongly recommended using warnings for pieces that include: hate crimes, sexual assault, gun violence, self-harm/suicide, violence against animals, domestic abuse, and slurs.

The Workshop Process (Spring Digital Issues Only):

Wilder Things Magazine conducts a short workshop process for all accepted submissions for the spring digital issue. Our team highly encourages contributors to participate in this workshop process. However, contributors are not required to participate in the workshop process. Because the Wilder Things team does not know who would be interested in participating in the workshop process, our team accepts submissions into the magazine as they are submitted to us.

If you are interested in the workshop process, please feel free to signal that interest in your submission email. Otherwise, please submit pieces you are confident in being published as they stand. Thank you, and we can't wait to read your work!
